Final Project

Proposal:
The process of my project consist of starting over from what I did on the midterm, I really didn't like my midterm, the table to me didn't really look like a table and the lighting was really messed up and my objects didn't look very well done. I also did want to try a different lightning technique. I always find wine bottle and glass very interesting. I also work in catering so I applied a real life situation to my animation. Table cloth falling off the table and wine glass and bottle following the table cloth too.

Pre-production log:
I wanted to try something different than just a dark room with wine glass and wine bottle in it. My midterm table wasn't very good, because I did not know how to extrude very well. I started to look up Youtube video how make a more complex table. The video below was what I was looking for with lot of extruding. I practiced extruding object more and more and I finally got the hang of it.

My midterm did not have chairs in it so I decided that for the final I would incorporate some chair in it, again I wasn't looking for a boxed chair. I wanted something a little more complex, with moving vertexes and pillow seats.

STORYBOARD:
I started a whole new project in Maya. I wanted to create something that has to do with table cloth falling off the table and the wine bottle and glass fall off with it. The scenery in the background would be outside in sunlight.

Production log:
I watched the video and found that the reference was very useful. So I created a NURBS cube Primitives.
Then I created a curve that somewhat look like the table leg, Afterward, I created a little cube and go into the face and select the bottom of the face and the curve. Extrude feature happen shortly after that, I play with the twisting in the attribute/channel Menu.

I made the top of the table next, I created a cylinder than went back into face menu, than select all around it and did some extruding, which somehow messed up the cylinder. the left side is not geometrical to the right.

The process of the chair wasn't complicated as I thought it would be. I created a couple of cube primitives then add some edges, to move the vertexes smoother and not mess up the chair. I also used face menu to extrude the legs of the
chair. I used the second video in the pre-production log.
After Making the chairs and table I was not sure what I was going to do with my project. I knew I wanted to be in sun light as the scenery but I wasn't sure if I wanted it to look like a living room. I experimented with making a cube first and taking off the front face.

These are also experiments scenery. I was really unsure where I wanted to go with the background, I tried to figure out how to put the scenery looking like sunlight but it didn't really work out well. I made an image in Photoshop and importing it in  I also made grass but when I                                                              rendered it out, its wouldn't
show up in rendering. Then, I decided to make a blank floor with cement imported image using lambert shading. I also wasn't sure how to make the back ground look farther away then just a boxed shaped. I tried to search it up but I don't think I worded correctly.

After looking at the cement on the floor, I immediately thought of sunset in the background, like an ocean kind of view. I found what I was looking for in the mental rays rendering setting menu. Physical sun and sky. I rendered out but I was too bright as first so I spent a good time adjusting the direct sunlight to my liking.

I then referred back to my midterm and model the wine glass and bottle however, I spend more time this time editing the curves to make sure it look like a realistic wine bottle and wine glass.

Below is the close-up of my model wine bottle and wine glass. I was really happy with the end result. The shading was a bit tricky because of the physical sun and sky light. I couldn't use transparency in the blinn shade. I  also didn't diffuse, I tried different shade of white and green in the color menu. I also added table cloth and N-cloth in to the table to create the effect of someone pulling on the table to make the wine bottle and wine glass fall.

This was the shading and light that I settled for. The table cloth looked like glass. I was really happy with this render. (BELOW)

Than I set began to set key for when the bottle moving with the table cloth that is being pulled. Then I realized it wasn't what I was planning to do, its looked very awkward and messed up the table cloth. So I watched http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wR7z-ByMAE0 to see how I would play with rigid passive and active bodies in maya. I sorta got it to work however I couldn't apply the active body to the table so when the glass and bottle would fall and roll on the table. The wine glass and bottle just go through the table.

I was trying to render the batch out 5 times, the physical sun and sky was a dark background, and I could not figure out why it was rendering it like that. My solution to that was to import a background using Mib_Spherical shade in the physical sun and sky option menu.

Self-Evaluation:
After countless attempts of failing with 3D modeling, I can say that I appreciate 3D animation a lot more than before going into the class. My first time 3D model weren't the best however, I tried really hard to model and work with Maya. I really liked my final result and what I got out of the class. Maya was very challenging for me to work with because there are so many command and menu and countless number of crashing and hours of rendering. I learned it and struggled a lot in the class but I never gave up on the project, I'm glad I stayed in the class and understand the art of animation.

Attempted lowman animation

This is my animation of lowman. I restarted from the original file many times. The joint were disconnected and the set key weren't being set. The camera weren't working either. So I did this animation in Perspective view. Plus I rendered each scene in the the render preview because the file wouldn't render. I attempted to make him dance but failed miserably.
